Council talks on new negotiation mandate drag out

The Council has not yet agreed on a new mandate for the Irish presidency to negotiate with the European Parliament on the fisheries reform. Government representatives in Coreper discussed the issue in the evening on Thursday 2 May without reaching any conclusions.

Xavier Pavard, press officer for agriculture and fisheries issues in Council, tweeted Thursday evening that Coreper on 8 May will finalise a proposition that ministers will discuss in Council 13–14 May.

Another Council source said that the two trilogue meetings on 7 and 14 May will have to be rescheduled, and that the next trilogue meeting will take place only after the 27 governments have agreed on a new mandate for negotiations.
