“The value of oceans as a sink of CO2 is often ignored”

“The value of oceans as a sink of CO2 is often ignored.”

Dr. Emily Pidgeon, Senior Director, Conservation International, at a symposium in the European Parliament about the role of oceans and coastal ecosystems in absorbing and storing carbon.

Coastal ecosystems such as mangroves or seagrass meadows store carbon much more efficiently than forests on land. These ecosystems are being lost rapidly due to human activities, which leads to carbon emissions.

The presentations of Emily Pidgeon and the other speakers are available at the website of the organiser, EBCD.
