Gabriel Mato Adrover is proposed to become the new chairman of the Fisheries Committee in the European Parliament.
As the European Parliament has reached half-time in the legislative term, the members of the Fisheries Committee will vote on a new chair on Tuesday, 24 January.
The proposed new chairman is Gabriel Mato of the conservative EPP group. He belongs to the Spanish party Partido Popular, just like the current chair, Carmen Fraga.
Gabriel Mato’s candidacy is part of an agreement among the political groups for a reshuffle of chairs, vice-chairs and members in some of the Committees of the Parliament.
The Fisheries Committee will also get an additional full member, Raül Romeva i Rueda (Greens/EFA), raising the number of full members to 25.
