Marine scientists from Europe and Canada will present their studies on ecosystem shifts that happened in the Baltic Sea and the Black Sea, and debate possible management responses to such events. One session will look specifically at causal links between overfishing and the recurrence of algal blooms.

Guinea-Bissau agreement
On 19 December, the PECH Committee will discuss a draft report by Carl HAGLUND (ALDE, FI) on the new Protocol to the Fisheries Partnership Agreement with Guinea-Bissau. If adopted, the current FPA, worth 7.5 m€ per year, with 40% earmarked for the development of the local fisheries sector, would be extended for one year, until June 2012.
