“It is not true that 91 percent of countries apply the precautionary principle”

“If it were true that 91 percent of the member states applied the precautionary principle to fisheries management, which they claim, then the report The State of World Fisheries and Aquaculture would not look the way it does.”

Comment by India’s representative at the FAO meeting in Rome (COFI), 31 January, 2011, during the discussion about the slow implementation of the Code of Conduct for Responsible Fisheries.

The report The State of World Fisheries and Aquaculture 2010 shows that the overexploitation of fish stocks continues to increase.
