Associated press recently reported that about two-thirds into the current fishing year, which ends April 30, U.S. federal data indicated New England fishermen were on pace to catch fewer than their allotted fish in all but one stock. During this year, New England fishermen have switched to a radically new management system.
Scientist Steve Murawski said to Associated Press that for the first time in written fishing history, “As far as we know, [the U.S.] has hit the right levels, which is a milestone.”
According to Associated Press, Murawski said the U.S. is the only country that has a law that defines overfishing and requires its fishermen not to engage in it.
