BBC News: River and lake fish ‘neglected but essential’
Inland fisheries provide employment for more people than their marine equivalents, as well as providing essential nutrients for 100 million people, a study by the UN Environment Programme (UNEP) and the WorldFish Center concludes. Launched at the UN Convention for Biological Diversity (CBD) meeting, The “Blue Harvest” study warns that impacts such as dams and pollution have reduced yields and urges countries to adopt an “ecosystem approach” to managing inland fisheries.
