Lowri Evans has been nominated as the new Director General of the European Commission’s Directorate for Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (DG MARE).  Ms Evans was previously working in the Commission’s Competition Directorate.

She will replace Fokion Fotiadias who has been nominated as the Director General of DG Development. Mr Fotiadias was obliged to change post following the appointment of a fellow Greek, Commissioner Danamaki, at the DG for Maritime Affairs and Fisheries. It is a general rule that people of the same nationality should not fill the posts of Commissioner and Director General within the same DG.
