GLOBE legislators agree global marine ecosystems recovery strategy

Parliamentarians from around the world met in London on World Oceans Day to adopt a global marine ecosystems recovery strategy.

The international three day meeting was called by the Global Legislators Organisation for a Balanced Environment (GLOBE), an organisation for parliamentarians committed to environmental issues. The GLOBE initiative aims to challenge the current international political failure to address the rapid decline of global fisheries stocks.

Priority actions for Legislators in the Marine Ecosystems Recovery Strategy include a comprehensive global management of marine ecosystems, an end to harmful fishing subsidies and at least a quarter of the world’s oceans protected from fishing by the establishment of marine reserves.
