The International Council for the Exploration of the Seas (ICES) has published its annual scientific recommendations for catches of Baltic Sea fish stocks in 2011. The European Commission will use this advice to prepare a proposal for Baltic Sea TACs for 2011.
According to the advice, cod stocks are improving and TACs could be increased (see cfp-reformwatch: Extraordinary recovery of cod in eastern Baltic). The same cannot be said for herring, sprat and salmon, where the advice is for reduced catches next year.
The Commission is expected to publish a proposal for Baltic TACs in early September for adoption by the Council of Fisheries Ministers in October.
