In a report published on 3 May, Espana: The destructive practices of Spain’s fishing armada, the NGO Greenpeace points the finger at Spain for being at the forefront of much of what is wrong with the CFP. The report highlights that the Spanish fleet is the largest in the EU, receives the most subsidies and has the most vessels operating outside EU waters. It also pulls no punches in describing illegal activities of some of the fleet. The NGO demands that a reformed CFP reduces capacity, develop marine protected areas and halts destructive fishing practices.
